Monte-Carlo Masters 2023 Preview:
Stefanos Tsitsipas, the defending champion, is seeded second. Daniil Medvedev is the third seed, and Casper Ruud is the fourth seed. Other noteworthy competitors include Alexander Zverev, Karen Khachanov, Frances Tiafoe, Taylor Fritz, and Cameron Norrie. Stan Wawrinka, a three-time Grand Slam champion, was also given a wildcard to compete.
Withdrawals have become a problem for the competition in recent days. Rafael Nadal, the 11-time champion, was the first to withdraw as he recovers from an injury suffered during the Australian Open.
Carlos Alcaraz, Felix Auger-Aliassime, Denis Shapovalov, and Gael Monfils all followed suit. Despite the absence of several notable names, the field is stacked with in-form players.
The Monte Carlo Masters continues today, with more elite players on to the court, including Daniil Medvedev, Taylor Fritz, and Holger Rune.
They’ll all be trying to advance to the tournament’s last 16 after the top two seeds, Novak Djokovic and Stefanos Tsitsipas, sailed through to that round yesterday with victories over Ivan Gakhov and Benjamin Bonzi, respectively.
Unfortunately, no British players remain as Jack Draper and Dan Evans were both defeated yesterday, just one day after Andy Murray and Cameron Norrie exited the competition.
